On-Camera Acting for Teens in Baton Rouge

All teenagers need to stay busy and find a passion in some creative art or sport or theatrical endeavor. Without finding a niche, teenagers fall prey to idle time which causes them to feel lonely and potentially get in trouble. Having taught acting class for teens for ten years I find it’s a great outlet for their confidence and self-image. I’ve even been able to include many of them in the films I’ve made one the years and I’ve seen them creatively glow, and even some of them have chosen to pursue filmmaking as a career due to getting to experience acting class at Love Acting.

Teenagers should be in acting class for many reasons. They can see what they’re actually projecting into the world when they watch their tape back. So often we think we know how we’re presenting to the world but we don’t really know til we hear our voice back on a voicemail.

In our on-camera acting class, we do scenes from different movies and then we watch them back. We give notes to each actor and then they do the scene again. It’s a great exercise to be able to take directions in life. Learning how to take direction from an acting coach is like being on a movie set and having to take direction from a director. This practice not only helps teens learn how to become great actors but also helps them learn how to take direction from their bosses in the future.

There are so many details that go into making a great scene for the camera and having to be so focused and dedicated to a scene for a teen is challenging. But when a teenager really nails a scene and feels like they did a great job, they leave class that day beaming and excited about their ability to have accomplished such a daunting creative endeavor.
