Virginia Tucker Visits Love Acting in Baton Rouge
I love having guest coaches come in to teach at my studio Love Acting in Baton Rouge. Virginia Tucker had just come off of working on a movie in New Orleans, and we had the honor of working with her in the Intermediate On-Camera Acting class this past week. I’ve noticed that when actors come off set, they have a certain kind of inspirational energy— which I was excited to glean from Virginia.
Emotional preparation for actors is one of my favorite topics to teach about at Love Acting because it’s one of my favorite things to do do myself as an actor. I always seem to thrive going deep in my emotions. I feel like if you can’t use art to express your emotions, then why do it? There are so many ways to get ready to do an emotional scene in film or theater. Virginia shared with us a few of the ways that she gets ready to do an emotional scene, and it definitely inspired the students and worked well for them. When you get to work with a great young director like her, you see the growth that occurs in the great, young students as she worked with them.
There’s never just one way to do anything in acting, and I never want my students to feel like I understand it all, because I’m still learning myself. And I’ll always be learning. So it’s refreshing to hear from other people at the school.
